I've never done it and was wondering how to protect my precious gift so it gets there in one piece.
Can anyone help?

If you know where to look (maybe ask at your shipping service or US post office), you can find special packages to protect bottles from the rigors of the trip. But for absolute protection, extra large boxes and plenty bubble wrap and styrofoam pellets add security.

To ship it UPS, you would have to be a authorized alchol shipper. Most liquor place have specialized boxes for the bottles to be shipped without much damage, if any. Good luck getting it overseas in one piece.

what i do is get a larger box and a can of foam expander from the harware
sprae a bit on the bottom let that setput the bottle in wrapped in cling film and spray the rest in seal the box
no problem
