We got "Tigger" a year before we added another kitty. She was never a lover, but she would occasionally lay on my and let me rub the top of her head. Its been 6 months since we added "Baby Roo" and ever since her addition Tigger will NOT let us pet her. She moves away as if it physically hurts her to be petted! And if she knows I'm moving towards her to pet her, she runs off. Why??

Well this could be 1 of 3 things.

1. Tigger's jealous of Baby Roo and is pissed at you for "replacing' her. The solution to this is spending one-on-one time with just you and Tigger and letting her know you could never replace her and that you still love her.
2. Tigger could actually have something physically wrong with her and you may want to consult your local vet and get her an appointment just to be on the safe side. You cant always figure out internal injuries by yourself.
3. Baby Roo may remind her of another cat-which in turn could remind her of a traumatic experience in her life. Maybe she was friends with a cat that looked or smelled like Baby Roo and that cat died. Or maybe Tigger was abused right along with another cat that looked or had the same scent as Baby Roo. If this is the case, try to get the two together more and rub their scents on each other so theyll be more comfortable with each other.

Hope I could be of some help! :)

Good luck with your kitties!

When you were integrating "Baby Roo" into your household, did you tend to put more energy and attention towards new kitty rather than Tigger? Maybe she is feeling a little neglected and she doesn't like the fact that you have another cat. How does she get along with Baby Roo?

It sounds like Tigger wasn't much of an affectionate cat to begin with, but she could've been "pushed" more away from you when Baby Roo came home.

I'm going to agree with Jennifer on pretty much everything she said. I'd definitely take Tigger to the vet to get looked over, but also force the cat to spend quality time with you. It's not as important for the cat to become best friends with Baby Roo, but a relationship between yourself and Tigger is important. I have a cat that wasn't socialized as a kitten and he all but refused to spend time with the people...he loves the other cats. After about 6 months of him staying away from us, I just started picking him up, sitting him next to me on the couch, and petting him. Whether he wanted to or not. I did it several times a day for a couple of weeks and since then he's been my little lover. They really like to know that you're there for them and don't love anyone over them. Cats that don't like one another will usually just avoid eachother, but their relationship with you is what counts. Good luck!

I am no cat psychologist but my kitty does this same thing. She has moods when she wants me to pet her. I can usually tell just by looking at her if she's "in the mood". I just got a new puppy and it's more rare than ever that she get in the mood. Hahaha...I think cats are just as territorial and set in their ways as dogs (maybe more). They definitely do not adjust as easily. I would say your cat just has a certain personality. You may have to accept that she is more of a loner and does not want the mushy stuff. Give her time with the new kitty, she'll be back to her old self. If not, call a vet and get her on kitty prozac. It didn't work for my cat though.

Personality! And she could be mad that the other cat is there - have you thought of putting Baby roo in another room while you are with Tigger? Maybe Tigger wants her own space. How is Tigger with baby roo? playful?

Tigger is insanely jealous of the new kitty. Try to have some one on one time with her each day. Give her treats, talk to her, play with her & her favorite toy. Show her you did not get the new kitty to replace her. Also, you might want the vet to check her. She might really be sick. It would put your mind at ease to know for sure. One of my cats has never been a lover either. She scratches and hisses if I ever try to hold her. I had to settle for the occasional sitting beside me and letting me pet her. Good luck!

Some cats are independent but they don't always run away. Did her feelings get hurt when you brough home a new cat. Sometimes the new cat gets so much attention and the old cat gets scolded for trying to be boss. That can make them mad for a long time. Maybe forever.

Our neighbor got a puppy last summer. They were always yelling at the cat for spitting at the puppy. They were afraid the cat would hurt the puppy's eyes with its claws. That cat go so mad that it ran away from home. It came over to our house and started living on our front porch swing. They gave us the cat. If she is looking out the window and they come out in the yard, she gets down from the window.

Elephants aren't the only ones with long memories.

Did you get Tigger declawed?

Cats often change their behavior dramatically after such a procedure.

Tigger is mad about the other kitty. she thinks your forgetting her. She feels upset at you. (Cats & human have the same kind of brain when it comes to emostions.)

Well, she may be upset with you. Did you use a squirt bottle to teach her to stay off of something when she was younger? Are you female and do you use perfume? Some scents actually are unpleasant for cats. How has she adjusted with the new one? Do they interact and like each other? If the cats like each other, then the problem might be with something the cat is picking up from the people. While some cats aren't exactly love bugs, it is really unusual for them to run away from their humans.
