Have you been forced to say "Happy Holidays?" Either 1. at work, or 2. In public while on your own time? (Not representing your employer.)

Also, Have you been told that you can not have a Nativity scene on your property?

I see a lot of responders to the "Happy Holidays" questions saying that they are offended by not being able to express their personal beliefs. I was just wondering how often people are actually forced to hide their faith.

Guess what? I am not a Christian and I find it offensive for anyone to tell anyone what they can or cannot say or do! If someone tells me "Merry Christmas" I embrace the sentiment. And I seriously doubt that you would find anyone of my faith that would be offended. We tend to be very open-minded and non-judgmental. So Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Blessed Yule, Happy Kwanzaa and Happy Holidays! Hope I didn't leave anyone out!

I have never been told not to say Merry Christmas. If I were, I wouldn't stop doing it. I hadn't heard people were not allowed to put up nativity scenes, but I'm not surprised. Did you see on the news where the lady had a peace sign out of a Christmas wreath on the side of her house and the city made her take it down. I think it was in Denver. She was simply stating that Christmas is a time of peace, she wasn't being anti-war. I think people carry things way too far. Every one has a right to his or her own personal beliefs and forms of religious expression. I don't have to agree with them, but I don't have to force my ideas on them, either. The same is true vice-versa, let me have my own religious beliefs.

Just a foot note, the United States started falling in a downward spiral when prayer was taken out of school. Most people would have us believe it was just a fluke with the timing, but was it??

Some of the responses here are pretty...well, inconsistent, I'd say. I'm trying to be nice.

Do you know far some people are taking this kind of thing?

"Christian" pharmacists who refuse to fill prescriptions for birth control. why? Because it goes against their beliefs, they say. There have been absolutely INSANE cases of this sort of thing. The fact that pharmacists have a code of professional ethics that they are required to uphold means nothing to these people - they are quite willing to take on a job that they KNOW will require them to fill any legally-authorized prescription and then refuse to do so.

It's stupid. If you're a Tibetan Buddhist and cannot kill any animal or contribute to the death of any animal, you do NOT apply for a job at a meat-packing plant and then refuse to DO your job because of your religious beliefs. And if you do make this crazy career choice, your employer has every right to fire you for non-performance.

You know how Christians are always saying that those of us who are bothered by malls full of Christmas deco and songs and such should just shop elsewhere? Well, if you can't deal with saying "Happy Holidays" because that's store policy, get another job.

Isn't that what you'd tell people whose jobs required them to say "Merry Christmas" who had objections to that?

Not me.

My boss IS Christ. I'll say it often. AFTER Christmass, that is - and for twelve days following.

Until then, I'll say "Blessed Advent".
