i want to start my own donation, because organizations like the the salv army take $0.75 out of $1.00 that u donate. which is not good for anyone. I don't want to really collect money, but maybe clothes and caned goods for un-wealthy people or the homeless. How can i get started and can i get started without a permit or do i need a permit.....?

Hi, I do donation drives all the time for my job it depends though on what you want to do. Right now im doing something for the homeless. First you need to choose, and that's good you did choose. What you want to do now is first advertise for a drive at school or neighborhood ask for what your asking for, it may be money/food or whatever it is your doing. So when you advertise, and go door to door you just need an approach like hello my name is georgia, im raising (whatever it is your raising) for the earthquake in haiti, explain a little bit more in about 1-1 and a half minutes then you need to keep it all in a jar box whatever it is then find out how to send it to haiti, also give facts about haiti to sell them and make them feel bad such as did you now that 1000's of people are homeless in haiti you can make a difference by donating, and never ask for a certain amount, the only time you do that is for example if you say we are trying to raise 5,000 dollars and we have 4,850 please donate to help a good cause! Hope i helped sincerely, Lucas

starting a donation of ur own isn't a very difficult job,u do realize dat other organizations u named take 75% out of da real money, yes it is possible da needy might not get as much benefits as they deserve to from you'r money but you first eed to check from ur local city counceller if it's possible for you to start it off on your own (if ur planning to start an organization or so) and obviously their will be an amount you have to pay as in case of tax and other payments, you also need to know how you have to run this whole system, because take it along you need money, without taking any of the amount in for urself,u need to divide the donations as in how much will go for the needy and also how much for the taxes and other things. If you have people working with you, they need to be payed to other then being working volantarily. So a thorough study of this system and its requirements will be helpful.
Other then sterting it commercialy,u can yes start it on ur own too,if you can directly approach people and help them ,nothing like it and that is possible. You know how much time you have in which you can do all this social work, according to that divide your time and amount of work and start your own donation.

I don't think so, its good to have an organization to help you get started with donations. But you can place signs and just collect items to donate to Charity's all over the place.

There are laws, rules and regulations concerning charity.
You can start with family, friends and neighbors.
Ask them if they might know someone else who might be interested or willing to donate items to you. A newspaper ad will help spread the word about your efforts.
Talk to local grocery stores about purchasing damaged can goods (dented) at a discount.

Good start. Ask for help.

Keep asking questions.

Learn how to communicate effectively. Take an International Toastmasters course. You will become an effective communicator and learn how to influence and help people.

Learn how to tell a good story.

Ask for someone to set up a web page for you to take donations.

Then ask everyone to pass on your information and ask them to help you.

Write correspondence to all important people such as: mavens, connectors and persuaders (centers of influence).

Correspond with all politicians, movie stars, journalists...

Why?

Because you need to "practice your craft" on a daily basis. One out of hundred will help you. So you must communicate with 100 people per day.

There is "12 Steps to Success" to guide you.

You also need to fully understand your "higher purpose." That way you wake up each day motivated to do what is necessary to fulfill your higher purpose.

Sincerely,

Don't reinvent a bad wheel. Besides your figures are wrong and libelous. Give to a needy person, PERSONALLY. Buy three one dollar burgers instead of one and sit on the bench. Let him see you take one out of the bag after he had his choice. I read the whole Bible this year and Jesus never said "When I was hungry you gave to a foundation."!
