Vomiting blood is a regurgitation of blood from the upper gastrointestinal tract, which includes the mouth, pharynx, esophagus (the feeding tube that transmits food and secretions from mouth to stomach), stomach, and small intestine. Vomiting of blood results after there is upper gastrointestinal bleeding.

Common Causes
* Prolonged and vigorous retching (may cause a tear in the small blood vessels of the throat or the esophagus, producing streaks of blood in the vomit)
* Bleeding ulcer located in the stomach, duodenum, or esophagus
* Irritation or erosion of the lining of the esophagus or stomach
* Bleeding esophageal varices
* Vascular malformations of the GI tract
* Tumors of the stomach or esophagus
* Esophagitis
* Gastritis
* Ingested blood (for example, swallowed after a nosebleed)
* Gastroenteritis

If its bright red...its probably from throwing up and a little bit of tearing in your stomach or esophagus. If it is black or looks like coffee grounds. Go to the emergency room That is a more serious issue and is in a whole different category and probably has nothing to do with drinking the night before.
But its not uncommon for you to see some blood in your Vomit if you've been vomiting alot..Lay off the booze..or at the very least keep yourself in check when you do drink. I mean obviously you aren't having a good time right now.

It is not alcohol poisoning, even though the amount he drinks doe not help. Chances are that he has a ulcer that has ruptured in the duodenum, Where the small intestine joins the stomach. He will have to quit drinking and have a life style change in order to heal, if he does not .... oh well EDIT:I am glad it is not something more serious. Please get him to go to AA or seek help. He MUST stop drinking. This is very serious and if he continues to drink he will not heal and probably be dead within 10 years. THIS IS HIS WARNING AND IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE FROM HERE IF HE DOES NOT QUIT DRINKING AND IF HE SMOKES...SMOKING. I am a RN and I see this all the time and can not emphasis how serious a situation it is. Good Luck and God bless.

3 causes
# 1 ulceration of the stomach due to alcohol.
# 2 repeated vomiting may tear the lower esophagus & make you vomit blood after that
# 3 chronic alcoholingestion may cause liver cirrhosis which inturn causes the development of dilated veins at the junction of stomach & esophagus & these dilated veins may bleed easily.
Good luck & stop the stupid drinking, its getting serious now.

Bleeding ulcers can do that. If it is a bleeding ulcer... He may need transfusions depending on the severity of the blood loss....the ulcer will keep getting worse until he stops drinking.
