In checking NCAP safety tests they appear to favour testing the 4 door version of a car. Given a specific model of car e.g. Golf ; is a 4(5) door body likely to provide better or worse impact protection than the equivalent 2(3) door version of the same model ?
Thanks

EuroNCAP try to test the most popular version of a car, so tend to choose a 5-door model of most hatchback cars.

The 3-door is likely to have a slightly stronger shell, so overall impact strength should be slightly better. However the front door of the 3-door car is longer, with the B-pillar behind rather than next to the front-seat occupants, so in certain side-impact conditions the front seat occupants may be more vulnerable in the 3-door than the 5-door. In other words, which provides the better impact protection depends on the impact, as well as the body type.

In the aftermath of an accident, it will be easier for rear seat occupants to get out of the 5-door car (or if the accident is more severe, easier for the emergency services to get to the rear seat occupants).

You really should not be driving with an attitude like that, the difference between best and worst NCAP is so marginal that you should disregard it, if you want safety fit a race type roll cage and wear a helmet and fireproof overalls.
Again Safety and Golf in one sentence, buy a big Merc Audi or BM, Merc E class ideally, it wont save you if you get hit by a 38 tonner waiting in a Motorway queue but they may be able to reuse a kidney or two, but big car equals safe when hit, so spend your new golf budget on a tank.
I dont believe in having accidents so I am buying a 1971 classic 1071 Mini (with a Roll Cage)

properly, specific, and no. 2 door vehicles are approximately 50% plenty extra probably to be in contact in an twist of destiny than a 4 door form. besides the fact that if the two door is the comparable form (rabbit, concentration, civic) or an identical form (monte carlo to the impala), this statistic holds up. the strange element approximately it quite is that maximum 2 door vehicles are relatively extra reliable than 4 door vehicles and much less probably to tip over. so why is this real? properly, it has to do with the drivers. maximum drivers of four door vehicles are mature, adults, family human beings, maximum 2 door drivers are youthful, immature and male. all severe danger human beings to be using. based on your question, i might wager you fall into that type, so your mom is hectic for sturdy reason. a motor vehicle is a stupid reason to hate on your mom. ultimately, an somewhat sporty finding motor vehicle it relatively is a 4 door is teh mitsubishi lancer. particularly the ouncesedition of the vehicle, or a sparkling one with the 'shark' face.

I'd say the 3 door is safer - because having rear doors would obviously spit the body work i.e. more joins and places of vulnerability. And the 3 door looks better - so i'd go with that!

They probably expect the 4/5 to obtain more damage. They test that one because they its the weakest, that way it is reasonable for them to expect the other (2/3door) to perform better. The 2/3 door is stronger because the shell has less cut outs. thats my point of view as a degree qualified engineer

I thin the 4 door is a bit sthronger, the door post adds a little bit of strength. If you are impacted from the side aka. T-boned, none of them hold up very well.

it's just that the more weight the car has, the safer it is in a serious accident.
