Absolutely! I'll be going next week! It's a nice time of year there right now too, since it's not hot. Most tourist things are open. The French Quarter and the Garden District didn't get damaged at all. If you want to party, go to the French Quarter. For old houses and nice restaurants, go to the Garden District. Also, check out down by the riverfront, where there are boat trips and a big shopping area.

Have fun and post again if you have any other questions!

Of course!!! The common misperception is that the city is still in ruins and terribly unsafe. While this may still be true for certain areas, the majority of the city is up and running similar to before!!! The French Quarter and Uptown (Garden District) are just fine and downtown has a lot of cconstruction but is nonetheless back up and running as well. The ninth ward, 17th Street Canal neighborhood, for example, are still pretty torn up, but are undergoing a lot of construction. All of the original touristy places are pretty much as before. Some of the only big changes (as far as tourists go) include no streetcar service along St. Charles in Uptown and also restaurant service is not great now due to a shortage of workers. For the NOLA residents, there are many more changes, including friends moving a way every other weekend, crazy traffic, etc. But if you are visiting the city, come on down!!!! Spread the word!!!!! Let NOLA thrive again!!!

Kudos to you for wanting to come down and help the economy out. I just got back 3 weeks ago. It's fine. The ranting about crime, etc, is so overexaggerated. If you are visitng the French Quarter, you wouldn't know anything happened. There is a little construction on Canal Street, and some fire damage left on a few buildings. Overall, the city is back, and in full force. Monday - Wednesday is pretty slow, and some shops are closed. Not as much music either. But Thursday to Sunday....ROCKING. Lots of music, shops open, street performers, crowds. Just like always. You will love it. The food - The Gumbo Shop and Johnny's Poor Boys. The music - Jimmy Thibodeaux, Grampa and Stoney B. You will have a great time...trust me. I wish I could go back right now.

Oh yeah, New Orleans has its arms wide open to visitors from around the world. The business and nightlife parts of town did much better than the residential areas, so as a tourist, you'll be fine.

I was there a few months ago. The main touristy areas like the French Quarter and Garden District are running business as usual. If you are interested in seeing the areas devastated by Katrina, go the the Lower 9th Ward or St. Bernard Parish.

i think of the extra constructive question is -- what replaced into T-Mac smoking whilst he made this remark? Do you definitely think of the NBA is going to coach its megastar gamers loose in a city they deem to be risky? The league can no longer danger a participant being harm or killed (that's a attain) as a results of area of the sport. 2d of all, we are speculating on what is going to ensue next 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. And bear in mind, there have been, what, 3 shootings in Vegas over the All-megastar wreck? no one complained approximately feeling risky there even however no one had to stroll the strip for worry of being mugged or shot. As an entire, i think of it quite is ridiculous that this replaced into even referred to. If the NBA feels New Orleans is risky, they gained't have the All-megastar activity there. And plenty for the "enable's rebuild united statesa." mentality that ran rampant in the process the activities worldwide promptly after Katrina. The Saints performed in New Orleans; an identical practice of cohesion from the NBA could be welcomed.

Yes, it's fine in the tourist trap areas. Jackson Square and the Quarter have rebounded and the Garden District received very little damage. Harrah's is open. Audubon Zoo has been back up and running for awhile now, but I'm not sure about the Aquarium of the Americas. I believe it's back open, but you might want to call ahead it that's part of your itinerary.

Um, yeah.

Why on earth wouldn't it be? Most 'tourist' areas look just like they did before Katrina. There are no health risks or anything.

As long as you stay away from the neighborhoods that haven't been cleaned yet, you'll be fine. And even then it's really okay as long as you don't go in flooded houses for hours and poke around.

Just was there for Holloween; real fun. Just stay in the Quarter or Downtown, the locals told me that someone would kill me for my shoes if I left the beaten path.
