Dear Counselor

My name is Taylor, I am 15 years old and I am soon going to be 16. For many reasons I feel that it is best that I move out, but have no where to go. I have a few questions that I was hoping you could answer for me.

1. I do not have a SIN, and my parents will not sign for one, who else can? I heard they had to be over 18, so I could get my grams to sign for me right?.
2. If I live in a shelter, can I stay at my current school? I home school and I think it best for me, (academically, and emotionally) that I stay where I am. Would I be able to do my work at a shelter?
3. At 16 can I be forced to move back home?
4. What job options are available to me at 16?
5. What are my options for moving out? I have no friends or family to live with. I know shelters are an option, but are their any others?

Those are all the questions I can think of at the moment but I am sure I will have more later.

Thank you for your time

Taylor

You can get a sin # just look it up in the phone book and go and apply .
As for moving out it things are that bad at home then another option is to contact social services and they have programs for youth that can not live at home ..they can set you up in independent living at 16 yrs old . YOU need to stay in school too !!
Is there a youth centre in the area you live ..some one that works with youth ..they would be able to give you some direction ....GOOD LUCK

Taylor, moving away from your family maybe isn't the right answer right now. You need to meet friends and get out more. Your emotions are going crazy. Everybody believe it or not goes through this stage. I'm sure your parents love you. Are you an only child? You need to meet new people, some your own age.
Does Alberta have a recreation center? Someplace where you can join other kids your age and chat? I think if you can meet kids your own age and do things( this is the part of life your missing from being home schooled) you'll enjoy life more. In my tiny town there is even a center just for homeschooled kids. ask around in your community. Smile and God Bless.
