They're both "cold water" fishes so I see no reason why not. It might just turn out to be a "happy accident"! I've found several very tasty dishes by having to substitute different items in a recipe.

Well sure you can. Halibut and Cod are somewhat similar, but not completely, but I'm thinking close enough for a recipe.

The is no problem, Alaskan cod is a bit more fatty, if your baking it use less butter or oil.oaching or baking is different, make sure not to overcook it, when it starts to flake, by that I mean when testing doness, pull a peice with a fork, if the flesh flakes easily it is done, and remember, fish like meat continues to cook out of the heat source.
I like Alaskan cod with Hollandaie sauce, lemon or brown caper butter, or baking it in parachment, in the french manner called "en pappiotte" with onions, mushrooms and lemon an herb like thyme is nice and butter, done up and baked in the oven at 400 for 15-20 minutes, you can use aluminum foil to.

You can substitute any mild white fish for Halibut. Cod is fine.
Another excellent choice is flounder.

Cod or Grouper, Sea Bass any of those, usually fish recipes apply to the type or texture and I'd think any of those could be substituted.

I think some nice, thick, well trimmed planks of Mahi Mahi would be a nicer substitute, it has more of the same sweet chewy flavour and texture as halibut! :)

Sure, or any other firm "white" fish...like Catfish, a thick cut of Tilapia; I would stay away from something like Bluefish, though...too oily.
