I'd like to buy my wife a ski jacket but don't know a good moderately priced one to get. Any input would be great. Thanks.

You will have no problem getting a great jacket for that price.

Here are the brands you should consider:
North Face - great brand, popular, great products
Marmot - great brand, great products
Cloudveil - this is a hot brand right now.
Mountain Hardware - also a hot brand.

If your budget is over $200, I'd avoid a Columbia, that is a fine jacket, but not a better "ski" brand.

When you purchase, make sure to take into consideration what types of ski weather (or just walking around) she'll be using the jacket for. The choices of jacket types are:
Shell - generally little insulation, meant to be worn with several layers. These are usually waterproof or water resistant. Meant for heavy outside activity where person generate warmth.
Soft Shell - these are "new", and kind of hip. Also require layers, but don't have as much water resistance. Good for warmer blue bird days.
Insulated Shell - this is your "typical jacket", and a great overall choice. Offers warmth and water Resistance.
Insulated / Puffy - theses are heavily insulated and provide the most warmth.

Check these web sites:
www.sierratradingpost.com - great bands, excellent discounts.
www.rei.com - great brands
www.backcountry.com - specializes in winter sports.

Good luck!!

PS - I own a North Face insulated shell jacket, and a soft shell by Millet (french brand...)

i would go with spyder or helly hansen
they are both great brands and awesome products. North face is a good brand but I have always had problems with the zippers (my friends and family have said the same)
I have a spyder coat and pants and I ski in them a lot and love them
If these are too pricey columbia aren't bad product either there titanium line is not bad at all
Good luck man
