Running is the most efficient way to burn calories in one hour. Running at a 10-minute mile pace also burns 850 calories in one hour.

Any type of high intensity interval training will burn the most calories.
Example:
wind sprints - 1 minute with 1 minute rest

But I doubt you will be able to do this for an hour. You might consider doing some low intensity cardio for about 20 minutes and then to 15-20 minutes of internal training and then lift some weights for the last 20 minutes. This work out will have you burning more calories than anything else.

There is no answer to this question for everyone. Calories burnt is a measuer of work done. For an olympic swimmer the calories burnt swimming a lap would be considerable less than for you or me. While at the same time you or I may be a more efficient runner and burn less doing that at the same speed and "work load" as said swimmer. Swimming is, by most accounts, however, considered to be highest calorie burning activity you can engage in.

But most people still see great results from running on a treadmill, just keep in mind the "calories burnt" counter on said devices are supposed to be an average number... it does not reflect what you actually burn. Simply running your mouth on a treadmill (talking to a friend) has actually been shown to increase caloric expenditure.

I would say running up stairs.

I found a huge lot of stairs close to my house, its like a little walk way but its all stairs, it gives a major leg workout in about 10 minutes. Burns calories fast. But if you want to go for an hour, I'd say long distance running... and be sure to throw in some uphills.

Start of slow and work your way up to doing an hour of running.

Cross-Country Skiing. Alot of factors go into how many calories you will burn. It really depends on your weight. The more overwieght you are the more calories you will burn.

The best exercise is the cross trainer cuz it uses your arms and legs. Running is also good cuz it uses all your muscles
