Melt it slowly for many minutes on low power. Keep an eye on it and stir is constantly.

Some cheese will melt better than others, microwave or anywhere. But generally the best thing is to cut it into small pieces and stop frequently to stir it. You can also take it out before it's entirely melted--the heat of the melted parts will melt the rest as you stir it. Do it on low power.

Depending how you're going to use it, you can add milk or other liquid. Like if you want to make quickie nacho sauce from velveeta (which melts well without separating), cube it up, add some milk and a little juice from a jar of jalepenos, and nuke it for 30 seconds or so at a time, stirring. It will be thin, but thicken quickly as it cools/as you pour it.

The problem is either the cook time or the setting. Try setting the cook time for 30 seconds, check to see the progress, and stir it up a bit or turn the cooking plate 1/2 way. You may also try reducing the temperature from cook on high to medium.

If your microwave has a cover put the cover and a paper towel over the cheese and set at max power for 20 seconds to prevent burning.

It depends on how much cheese you are talking about...make sure to microwave it like 30 seconds at a time, and stir it and rotate it (so it doesn't burn and stick to the edges.)

half power, stir every few seconds if it's a liquid, and shredding it really fine will help as well. It melts faster so there's less chance of burning.

less time, better cheese

get some good corn chips and other items , then one minute at a time till you know how long it takes to get it right

try sharp cheddar
jalapenos
black beans and/or ground beef(pre cooked)
can of corn if ya like it
sour cream, guacamole, good salsa AFTER it goes in the microwave

When I make grilled cheese, I nuke it for 35 seconds, and that gets it melted quite nicely. :)
