My neighbors always ***** about how loud my family and I are. I have a 2 year old son who has cabin fever due to the fact he can't get to play outside as often as he would like now that it is winter. I HONESTLY try and keep him quiet as much as one can. (I am senative to loundness 2) I don't allow him to jump, pound or slam anything in the house. I take my son out to various activitites through out the week. I have even talked to them and given them my phone number to call if we are too loud. But now they abuse that and call literally, any time I cough or sneeze. Last night was the last straw. I gave my 12 pound mutt of a dog a bath and like typicla dog, he ran around after getting out of the tub. I was only 10:15. Our neigbor called to say we were being to loud. At this point my son was taking a bath and I was drying off the dog. 20 minutes later the police are @ my door. I feel this is harrassment. Any suggestions on how to encourage them to look into moving somewhere?

If you are renting, you have renters' rights. You can complain to the rental management that you are being harrassed by your neighbors. Change your phone number or get caller I.D. DO NOT accept their phone calls anymore! If they are calling the police on you, just remember that by law, you don't have to open your door, even to the police(unless they have a warrant.) I would not suggest that you retaliate against them by being extra noisy. That will just get you into trouble. TRUST ME. I am going through this right now with my neighbors. I completely ignore them, and I have told rental management that I am being harrassed and that it is illegal. Ever since I said that, I haven't been bothered.

Were you bathing your dog at 10:15 p.m. or a.m. because frankly if it was ten at night that's a little late for a dog bath. I hope it was ten in the morning sounds as if your walls are paper thin, why don't you try hanging some blankets on your walls to block sound. I go to sleep at ten for work during the week so keep that in mind. Some neighbours also just complain about everything and if it doesn't stop, contact your landlord and explain the problem to them. Good luck

It may be easier for you to move. It may not be fair, but it might be easier. You might also want to change your phone number, or at least document their complaints and phone calls in case you need it for later on. Have you tried your local mediation center? Most housing courts have them, and in Cleveland we actually have the Cleveland Mediation Center. Try going to 211.org and see if there's a directory for your area. Also, the next time they call the cops to your door because they felt bath time was too loud or something just as rediculous, ask the police if they know who might be able to help you.

No offence, sounds like your the problem. It is most likely a quiet comminuty and people are not use to any noise at all. 10:15 is late for a lot of people, and for your kid to even be awake at the time is a bad sign. Try keeping it down or ask the people on the other side of you if are loud. If they show a sign of 'yes' then you really are too loud

They are probably not going to move, but I would begin retaliation by reporting them for every little thing you can think of. If you live in the USA, the law states you can only report excessive noise after 11 p.m. Get caller ID and don't answer them. You definitely are being harassed. Bless your heart. You have as much right to be there as they do.

I have 2 dobes and a few months ago some people moved in next door. i own my house, but they are renters.

the husband came over and said that my dogs tried to attack him...but then later recanted when i called him on this - my dogs are trained and gentle (no bias - proven fact) but will bark if someone comes too near our house. he was near our side of the house when the dogs put their paws on the top of the fence and let him know that they saw him. the dude was lying and admitted to being scared but not in danger

this went on for some time (his kids would throw their toys on our side of the fence or scream at the dogs) so as to protect our dogs from stupid people, we had to section off our backyard.

they got a cat a few weeks ago and let it run wild - antagonizing our dogs at all hours and then getting rude when i mention that they need to keep their cat on their side as our dogs aren't free to roam

i've documented their actions and was planning on reporting them to animal control and their landlord when my husband reported that they seemed to have "skipped" out last night.

so...that is what i would suggest you do...monitor their actions and if the cops show up or you get a notice from your landlord...have your information to back you up. if anythign, report harrasment to your landlord. the landlord and police have to respond to any claims.

keep your records and everything should work out if they try anything again.

Next time the police show up tell them that you feel you are being harassed. No one can keep a 2 year old quiet all the time. Next, change your phone number or get caller I.D. If they say anything to you, tell them that you are no longer talking to them and will not respond to them anymore.

if they think a sneeze is loud, get a huge stereo and blast it at ungodly hours..( take the kid to your folks for the weekend or something) first off, you shouldnt have given themyour number if you know your not loud, they are just being smart assed.. see if you can call the landlord if they are really that bad..
why cant your kid go outside? are they dangerous? would they hurt him? thats a reason to get them booted if they are dangerous to your kid

Maybe start sending them pamphlets, brochures and magazines of very appealing homes in other areas. It'll be junk mail, but because they are so peeved over the "loudness" of your family, maybe they'll pick one up and seriously think it over.
