Taking my mother and some friends to Manhattan to see the tree and do some shopping. Are there any decent restaurants (preferably in walking distance of Rockefeller Plaza) that are not too expensive?

There are a number of good reasonably priced restaurants on 55th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues.

1. La Bonne Soup - omelet with salad and bread is $12
Soup with salad, bread and a glass of wine is $16 (great onion soup. They have crepes and sandwiches. The food is very good; it can get crowded during the lunch hour.
Check the menu here:

2. Brasserie LCB Rachou (this used to be called La Cote Basque and it's very famous - it's also VERY good. A complete lunch, appetizer, entree and dessert is $28 - Creme brulee here is great) Check the menu; you don't have to get a complete lunch.

3. Imperial Dragon has very good food; you can get lunch (11:30 to 3:30 from $6 to $10). There are seafood dishes for under $10 - if you're on a tight budget and like Chinese food this might be perfect for you.

4. Kiku, a Japanese restaurant on the 2nd floor - there are lunch specials for less than $10. The restaurant is small, but the food is good.

5. Mechanko Tei is a reasonably priced Japanese noodle house.

6. Cassidy's is a pub serving reasonably priced burgers, sandwiches and simple entrees.

There is a pizza place on the block.

There are some excellent Italian restaurants - these are expensive: Tuscany, Giovanni, Il Corso and Maristella. Michael's is an expensive American restaurant. Fives is pretty bad. I didn't care for the food at Tang Pavillion, but maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. It's inexpensive.

Since all these restaurants are on the same block, I'm sure you will find something perfect for you.

Enjoy!
