The crop does look bloated after feeding. Where did you get him if you have not been taught? How old is the baby? Depending on his age he may need feeding 2-4 hourly. Do not feed again untill the crop is empty. Edit your post with more info.

Why is the mom not feeding? why is the dad not helping? Have you tried putting a dish of softfood for the parents? You can give them hand feeding formula or human cereal, maybe the parents just need a little help. At 6 days you will have to feed about every 2 hours round the clock for a week more at least. After this the baby will strech it to 4 hours, by 3 weeks the baby must have 7-8 at night with no feedings - 4 hours during the day. Do not feed again if there is still food in the crop. If the baby cries from hunger while the crop is full the formula is wrong for a budgie. If you cant get parakeet formula you can add crushed sunflower/ safflower to make the protein level higher to satisfy the baby. Make sure the baby is kept warm.

I would think it best to try get the parents to feed the baby. Have you tried to put a parent with food in the box with the baby?

Ok I hope everything is still ok. Maybe you can get someone to show you how. If you can get later - after 10 days old parakeet formula rather than parrot formula. Warmth is most important now. Heat the room rather than try heating the bird, he is too small to get away from a hotwater bottle etc.

The budgies crop should be a nice round circle

The best thing to do would be to visit your vet and ask him/her to show you how to properly handfeed.

If you need a vet, you can find one at
