Science Diet, Eukanuba and Iams are all crap dog foods. Anything that has corn as one of the top 5 ingredients needs to not be fed.

My personal recommendation is Canidae, Solid Gold or Merrick.

I am not familiar with Diamond brand but check to see if they have had a history with recalls on their food. I seem to remember hearing about some.
If you have a small breed puppy, Royal Canin is an excellent food and has a tiny kibble for tiny dogs called "Baby Dog" food.
For a large breed puppy, Eukanuba has a new large breed puppy formula with glucosamine and chondroitin for joints and bones.
Nature's Recipe is another good brand as is Authority. All these brands are premium foods that are more easily available from Pet Stores.
What I like about Nature's Recipe is they have a food made with Venison which is good for dogs with sensitivity to food. It is also a good dog food for Great Danes (the Venison variety) who need less protein in their food.
The brands I mentioned have food for Adult dogs too and directions on the bag about when to switch to Adult.

Diamond brand is ok. As a vet tech I highly rec. Eukanuba puppy foods. They are very digestable, and have omega fatty acids which are great for skin and coat. If you want a good brand you can get at the grocery store, go with IAMS which is made by the same company. Select one that is made for your dogs size- they come in Large breed for labs, goldens, rottweillers etc, medium breed, and small breed. This is important especially if you have a large breed dog. You should switch to adult food between 9-12 months of age depending on your vets recamendation. Good luck with your new puppy!

I took my dog to obedience class and the instructor covered many point about a dog's health. She said that ALL popular brands are harmful to your dogs healthy bones. They dont have anything good in the food that it causes more bad than good. I used to feed my dog Pedigree but since, I have switched to Nutro Ultra AKA Nature's recipe for my dogs. The instructor said that if the first ingredient listed on your dog's packaged food is vegatable oil or corn, its unhealthy but if you see the first ingredient being meat based such as Chicken Meal, Beef meal, fish meal, etc. Then those are the foods that will keep your dogs's coat shiny and bones healthy.

Iams is a really good food for puppies. when you are going to switch over to adult food, do it when your puppy is a year old, and do it slowly. add adult food to the puppy food, for about a week, and then only adult food. you can use this meathod as well to switch brands. switching too fast is unhealthy for the puppy.

i would suggest eukanuba or science diet or nutro. some people have problems with sience diet because it is so high in corn. when switching to adult food u need to switch between 6 months- 1 year. all feeds are high price but are very high quality. i would suggest calling a vet for advice. i feed my dogs eukanuba because all the vets i have talk to and worked for say its the best on the market. i have notice feeding this i use less and they have nice shiney coats and good skin and teeth.

Try to stick to the same brand of food. My vet told me to use NutroMax and I have found it to be a really good brand and my dogs (black lab & german sheppard) like it. They have all different stages throughout a dogs life.

I use pedigree.I think it is the best. Use it for my pregnant dogs and start my puppies on it also. It is not so rich that it causes the runs. But you need to find one and not change a lot. It can cause tummy problems.
