My experience as an early retired (due to health) worker is that once you reach the official pensionable age, suddenly almost everthing moves in your favour. From early retirement until pension age, you are treated almost as though you were a criminal for being disabled, then suddenly all sorts of financial benefits come your way.
I can't comment on what happens as you get much older than 65, I'm not there yet.
Compared to early retired, OAPs are treated as first class.

It's a class and wealth thing (like a lot else). Poorer people get dumped on because it's easier and older less well off people get dumped on more. The same goes for people with disablities.
The Queen is now in her 80s but I bet she has no problems when the council fail to pick up her rubbish bins.

As a female pensioner rising 62 next spring, I read your replies with interest... and because some made me laugh (tongue in cheek) and some made me shake my head at the arrogance of youth, while others made me think how sad that most of you haven't got a clue... so, though I could enlighten you on the subject, I can't bloody well be bothered, because, it'd take thirty years before you get shot of the prejudices... like, when you join our club and arrogant youth is snide at you:-)
Yawnnnnnnnnnning
PS: I don't get any benefits... despite being arthritic... I've never tried to claim any!

Some of them should be. Miserable bastards need to be shot. Work in a retail job for a while and you'll find out how nasty people are regardless of age.
But its fantastic when you meet someone at an elderly age who is still joyful, laughs and just enjoys being alive.

no,we dont tend to have "classes" i know a lot live in poverty as they do not receive enough benefits.which is quite sad:-( but it has improved a lot as they receive free heating allowances and are entitled to free housing, council tax etc if they receive basic state pension and they don't own their own house.some have good pensions though and go on lots of holidays and drive around in really nice cars!!haha it baffles me:-)

I can't answer your question honestly because I am always being discriminated against. Age is no barrier if you are disavantaged by being Miss Piggy.

Because their age makes them less likely to challenge authority making them a push over, and the government knows and abuses that knowledge.

yes they are. How can we claim to be a civilised nation when we spend more on imprisoning (close to £40,000 for the average prisoner per year so these animals cost more) and keeping alive rapists and killers and child abusers, than we spend on pensioners.
