Why does homosexuality offend people? Why does abortion offend people? why does war offend people? Why does peace offend people?

It's because that way of thinking is going against their beliefs.

Follow a principle that works, like the universe for starters.

The universe contains all the diverse rationalities of nature, and if it wants, it tries to eliminate them, for example, if one species is killing off everything else, then nature will try and change that.

So if rich white people are killing off everyone else, it will try and change that. The question now is, how much influence should we have in this?

Nature doesn't need humans to take care of its ecosystem, unless maybe it was human-caused. So if gays or abortions are "bad" (figuratively speaking) don't you think nature will do her best to change this? All humans have to do is be peaceful in their own ways, share and help out, but not get their own crazy notions of how to make the world a better place. The world is what it is, a working self contained entity. As for your neighborhood, well that could always use some adjustments, but does that mean you need to save the entire world? Na, that's stoner talk, fun, but overall meaningless.

The point is, help those out around you and leave the beliefs where they belong, in the heart.

No one gets offended by Merry Christmas -- or at least, very, very few people. I think "Under God" in the pledge is out of place for a couple reasons but that doesn't offend me either.

It doesn't offend most people. Members of the National Society of the Perpetually Offended claim that it makes them "feel left out" to have a Christian holiday. (I don't remembr any of them offering similar objections to Rosh Hashona or Kwanzaa.)

I find the current version of the Pledge of Allegiance offensive because some superstition-mongers stuck "one nation, under God" in there back in the '50s, but I learned it without that modifier, so I just recite the version I learned. There are some who feel that for religious or other reasons they can't pledge allegiance to a secular body, and though I can't accept their logic I don't see why we can't accomodate it, just as we allow Quakers and others who object to "swearing" an oath to "affirm".

saying " MERRY CHRISTMAS " should be a choice left up to an individual as their free will to say this or not. as far as The Pledge of Allegiance is concerned everyone should hear or read what Brother Red Skeleton said about this.

I find the entire idea of Christmas offensive. Not for religious reasons, but because it has become a commercialized holiday.

As for the Pledge of Allegiance, since the original version did not say "one nation under god", I simply choose not to say those lines.

Why is it offending to NOT say "Merry Christmas" or the pledge?
Christians are offended by this everyday.

No one has made it illegal for you to say "Merry Christmas" or the pledge. Similarly, no one has made it illegal for you to pray by yourself in school. This is a non-issue being drummed up by the religious far right.

I'm an atheist and I don't care if you tell me "Merry Christmas." I might even say it myself.

Question for you in return: Would you be offended if someone said "Happy Hannukah" to you?

I guess for the same reason that your choice of words might affend others..they don't want to hear it. Others don't like to hear "Merry Christmas", which makes no difference to me, it's still is the celebration of the birth of Jesus.
Just like I don't like to read or hear cuss words coming from a supposed Christian. Either you are for Christ or your not..Bitter and sweet water can not come out of the same spout...said Jesus.

Well, obviously you don't care if other people are pissed off, why should they care if you are?

I am not offended by the aforementioned. Just thought I would point out the inconsistency of your statement.
