I need a good set of speakers for my car - 2001 Saturn SC1. I need 6 1/5 for the doors, and I think 6x9's for the rear. I'm replacing stock speakers. The stereo is a 45w Sony, so I need something that won't get blown when cranked up. I have no amp and no subs and don't plan to get any (no room for it). I'd like to stick with name brand (Jensen, Pioneer, etc). Something $80 or less per pair. What's good?

I would have to say you should go with anything Sony branded because that is what your radio is already. They are actually good speakers and for the most part inexpensive. Most radios work best with the speakers of the same brand. Since yo have no room for an amp, i say go with Sony branded speakers.....

For your Sony 45w is Max per chanel... So you can use any Sony 6 1/2 and 6X9
Pioneer 6 1/2 and 6X9

I saw both style's on sale on the close-Out shelf at My local Wal-Mart 36.00 to 68.00 per pair either size...

Also I saw a great package deal on Walmart.com SONY CD/Am/Fm with 1 pair of 6.5 and 1 pair of 6X9 for only 99.99

Other than that Best Buy is going to have a Sale just before Christmas and everyone will try to match there prices...

Just shop around your local stores and see what they have...
I don't recommend buying anyones used speakers...

If you want Bass you can add a 8" Boozka that has a built in amp they don't take up much room...

Happy Motoring...

First-off i had checked the fit guide @ bestbuy.com and they say your car has 6.5(6 1/2)inch speakers all around front and back!
Next i had seen that they have a nice pair of Sony 6.5 inch speakers on sale model #:XSV1642A going for 59.99 as of Dec/03/2006! I think those will do you just fine!
There 4 ohm with an RMS of 55 watts and claim to have a peak power of 270 watts. Check it out you`ll be under your budget and won`t have to worry about blowing them up!

it doesn't matter if you keep the same brand of speakers and head unit. pioneer would be the best if you wanted to keep a lower budget. you can find memphis pr speakers at a decent price usually and they are great. they can handle a lot of power, but dont require a lot. even if they have less power like what your sony stereo is gonna give them they will sound good.

For Pioneer you're going to need to fork out a little bit more than $160. For both it'd be about $200. Pioneer is a very good brand and I highly recommend it.

Try your local Best Buy or similar stores. They should give you an idea what brand and how much. Then shop around to get the cheapest.
1. JVC, Sony, etc are great for starters.
