My story i identical to yours. Are you on an antidepressant. Prozac did wonders for me. As for the ups and downs when i got mad and couldn't express it at that moment i would promise myself that that night i would scream into a pillow or punch something to relieve the anger. It helped me so that at school and work i can keep my cool.

Ask yourself "What would make me happy?" (I know this is a difficult question) but focus on that even if it's wasting time doing whatever and if it seems unobtainable focus on achieving it anyway (like getting rich) comeup with money making ideas...At the least know you have self-worth!!!
acouple of small things are TAKE VITAMIN B complex (B12,B6,etc) helps with mood swings and get full spectrum bulbs it simulates sunshine and makes you feel better

go to a psychiatrist. a g p does not have the education and skills to properly diagnose you. they symptoms u describe are not typical of people that are depressed. people with depression usually don't have up and downs, and are unable to get out of their depression hope this helps. in terms of getting more help for yourself.

I just started growing a basil plant and a creeping ivy plant. It helps me lower my stress by focusing on something else for a little bit. It is nice to watch them grow. FInd something easy, but tedious to focus on. THat way, when you are done, you will have accomplished something and cleared your head even for a little bit.

maybe you're bipolar or cyclothymic / rapid cycling and not clinically depressed, and your GP saw you when you were in a depressed state. see a psychiatrist - not a GP.

i'm exactly like u!! when i'm really depressed I go and read, and anything to keep me from myself (if you know what I mean) so my mind doesn't get me more depressed... spend time w/ others, that's what gets my mind from depression (if only for a little while).

Go to church to learn God's way of living a fulfilling life.

In the Beginning God created heavens and earth.
God gives you air to breathe and sunshine to enjoy.
God gives you water to drink and food to eat.
God gives you a wonderful body and sound mind, to live.
God loves you, and you are precious to Him.
Son of God died on the Cross to save us from condemnation.
Jesus’ love is boundless and everlasting.
We have the hope of Heaven through Jesus.
Life therefore has fantastic and glorious future!
(Digestion of above can even prevent depression and suicidal thoughts.)
