Notce that is it a rebate? SA sellers are supposed to add this 5c on to the price of the drinks, as a deposit for the bottle, and when you recycle the bottle, you are supposed to get this 5c back for doing the right thing. Other states do not impose this 'deposit' for the bottle, which is why you are not allowed to bring your bottles in from another state to recycle them in SA, you never put the 'deposit' down in that state, so you cannot claim a refund for recycling it...

Yes a good Question. In fact the price difference is negligible, you sometimes can buy cheaper in SA. Main reason we don't have it is because they really don't care about the litter problem, its great to see nearly zero bottles etc on the sides of roads etc in SA. We in the other states will keep our Ostriches in government, one day they might pull their fingers out and do something positive for he environment.

I live in South Australia and I'm glad that we have refunds on our bottles. and soon it will be going up to 20cents or so we have been told.
we have this refund so that people will recycle their bottles and cans, The other states would benefit if they followed suit.
Yes we do have 5cents added on our bottles but I found that our prices are the same as it is in Melbourne.

I have often wondered that myself. I grew up in SA, and collecting bottles & cans was a handy supplement to our pocket money! It was 5c 25 years ago, so everyone used to recycle them. I guess its still worth it.

I am of the belief that there is and excises on glass in sa, which works out that this cost is passed on the consumer, hence if you return it to be recyled you get some money back.
oh and top of the morning to you

They do. MA, RI, NY, DE...and more. More than likely, your bottles only have your state on it.
Yeah...where do you live that the abbreviation is SA??? Oh, because you're writing in Australia. So good question...get on recycling, you Aussies! We're all doing it in the U.S! ;-)

For the record: Oregon's 'Bottle Bill' was the national prototype for ALL bottle/can refunds. We had it first, kid, LONG before anyone else even thought of it. Yes, even before Australia. Glad to see it made it overseas.

50c could be extra helpful. human beings could eat the drink and return the bottle incredibly of throwing it. That way we would not be dumping them on the ambience. young ones and unemployed could choke one yet another to snatch discarded ones and decide for the 50c. incredibly than have lots of them laying around. .
