Try this:

Change the orientation of your entire document
On the Page Layout tab, in the Page Setup group, click Orientation.
Click Portrait or Landscape.

Use portrait and landscape orientation in the same document
Select the pages or paragraphs that you want to change to portrait or landscape orientation.

Note If you select some but not all of the text on a page to change to portrait or landscape orientation, Word places the selected text on its own page, and the surrounding text on separate pages.

On the Page Layout tab, in the Page Setup group, click Margins.
Click Custom Margins.
On the Margins tab, click Portrait or Landscape.
In the Apply to list, click Selected text

First, go to File. Then click Page Setup. This should bring up a window with three tabs. Under the tab labeled Margins, there should be a section called Orientation. It has two choices, Portrait or Landscape. Portrait is straight up and down, and Landscape is sideways. After selecting one of the two, click OK to change the position of the paper.

Assuming you mean to change it from the default portrait layout to the landscape layout, and you're using Word 2003, open a new document, click File, then click Page Setup. In the middle of the window, there's a choice of Portrait or Landscape. Pick Landscape, then click OK.

I never worry about the (portrait)longways or (landscape)sidways. I key in what I want and when I go to print the printer options ask for the way I want to print the document; (portrait)longways or (landscape)sidways. For sidways I click 'landscape' and it prints out that way.

Change it in the page setup. Go from portrait to landscape.
