You are not right.

If you are talking about Spanish, si means if. Sí (note the accent over the "i") is yes. Si and Sí are pronounced a bit differentlỵ Sí must be stressed while si sounds light. This is important because it can change the meaning of a sentence.
Sí, se puede=Yes, it can be done
Si se puede=If it can be done
They mean different things, don't they.
In French, si is if (Si je vais chez toi= If I am going to your place)
Si also means "But yes" or "Oh, yes".
Don't you have any brother? Si, j'ai deux frères. (Oh yes, I got two)

People have Spanish and English confused. "Si" in English is certainly not "yes". It is a very obscure musical term for a certain note on the scale (the seventh) and, only if capitalized, the chemical symbol for silver. Never is it "no"; but it's never never "yes", either.

"Si" does actually mean a negating 'yes' in French. For example, Yes, is going to college, actually. Kinda like, contrary to what you believe, Yes, he is. So it's a kind of negative form of affirmative.

Maybe that's what you're thinking of?

In the French language, if you ask someone if they are a cook (you ask in French) and they say "oui", they mean that they are a cook.

But if you ask the question: "He didn't come home, did he?" If the answer is that he indeed did come home they'd say "Oui" but if you are correct that he didn't come home they'd say "Si", which means: "YES (si), the answer is NO, that he did not come home".

SI is the metric system.
Si is NOT the chemical symbol for silver--that's Ag.
