I think you've been talking to the wrong people. People who are scared to have someone tell them the flaws in their relgion, like so many humans do, so they defend their relgion before you ask questions, or get the chance the to point out flaws or misgivings.
If you would like I'll talk to you about the misconceptions about the relgions i know about, such as my own. Just contact me through my yahoo email (lovelylizardqueen@yahoo.com) theres no garuntee ill be on yahoo messenger so just try and email me. And if you have msn messenger (which im on all the time) talk to me there (broken.lovely.pheonix@hotmail.com)
I hope this helps! :D blessed be.

Your right it is to bad that people tend to defend their beliefs instead of just listening or asking an opinion about something. I've alway found the more they defend themselves the less secure they really are. If you really feel true about something you should be able to say it with debating it and accept that everyone has their own belief system. Good luck in finding the group that will just listen.

I think its a combination between talking with the wrong people, and just starting the wrong way. If you ask more questions, then it will be more unjustified for them to act defensively. I don't care how challenging a question is, I'll answer it the best I can and I'm not afraid if someone tries to convert me; if I can try to spread my own convictions then so can others. If I expect people to listen to me, I'll listen to them as well. And listening is not just probing question after question, but sometimes it is just letting a person say whatever they want then just telling them you understand (if you do). If both people understand each other, you wont get in nearly as many fights.

I think there is a universal truth RIGHT AND WRONG. In advance socities people think its a waste of time to judge other religion. Its thier personal matter. But then how could an adult make a decision, so they argue and give reasons to prove that they are making sense. Yes if you are debating with some....... you will have a problm. There are ethics of deabte.

My dear, it is because people are confused at the way the world works, and have forgotten their own happiness within themselves. In the end there is nothing to prove, since all things relate equally within the boundaries of nature and the universe. Does one star have to prove it's worth to another star? No, even though they are light years away, they are connected by the boundless immediacy of the higher power of love.

I don't "debate". I like to talk to people about their religion, and don't feel threatened by them.
But then I regularly study and learn about my own faith, and others, so I feel comfortable talking about it.
People feel the need to debate and attack, when they are afraid they won't know the answers in a reasonable discussion.

in 'believers', do you mean christians? or just believers of 'whatever' in general?
i think because religion is a very touchy and personal subject to people, and some people can be very judgemental against something that goes against their grain, and others who just dont believe can get down right nasty, so the 'believer' feels as if he has to defend himself first... does that make sense?

They are really subconcously defending their beliefs to themselves.
Many religions are built upon old stories, which are not proven to be true. Many believers only believe until they start to ask questions.
That's likley why they start defending.

You are perfectly right.
Wishing that we will become really mature soon to consult about reality, instead of wasting time in childish criticism or debate.

Some are so used to others attacking that this is the way that they react.
Sadly some are so eager to fight, they often forget that we are to show the love of God to all. Sure, stand up for what you believe in, but do so in love.
