You want us to go into a sovereign country, surround several thousand square miles of mountains and starve out anyone that is in there? And doing that when Bin Laden is in *Pakistan*? Not very productive actually.

Bush is not 100% sure where Bin Laden is. And surrounding the mountains of Afghanistan is just a big waste of time, money and people.

Because it is not that simple. There is so much territory there, and all the mountains provide plenty of escape routes. And the president is not so sure Bin Laden is in Afghanistan, he just knows that is his home base.

To the best of my knowledge, Bin Laden is in Pakistan now, and the Pakistanis refuse to allow American troops into the country (and I even heard that the Pakistani President has a truce with Bin Laden now <-- unconfirmed).

We believe that he is in Afghanistan but not 100% sure. We believe he is in the high mountain area. It would be very difficult to starve him out when you do not know the exact spot he is in. We think we know the general spot but we need more proof he is there. It may take awhile but we WILL capture him. Some people say he is already dead. But no one knows for sure.

First of all, we have no idea where he is. We have no leads and the 75th Ranger Btn lost his trail months ago. We're mainly working on gathering intelligence an where his friends are in order to get to him. Second, do you know how freaking big Afganistan is? It's not exactly something you can surround. We just don't have the man power to do that, especially when everyone back home is complaining about how there's already "too many" of us over here. Damn liberals..... Anyway, there's your answer.

What part of Afghanistan is he hiding in? It's a big country.
Besides, as we've learned, the mountains of Afghanistan are VERY hard to "surround".

What if the guy is already dead.
Then there would be no reason to stay in Afghanistan, right.
So why are we in Afghanistan ?
Can you say: Oil pipe line.
Hmmm, sounds so much like Iraq.

Based on my knowlege of the government, the general public is often kept in the dark. The president and his staff know much more than the public does. This should be taken into account when wondering what our governtment is doing.
