Yes ...craigslist.com or try thechicagoreader.com.
Also try petfinder.com or the animal control center at about 27th and western. think at the acc there is a nominal adoption fee.
On craigslist, under 'pets' you can also post an ad saying you are looking for a 'free' kitten. This would be your best bet probably. [make sure you go to the right side and click on chicago, first]. good luck.

Well you might try the want ads in the newspaper often people who are trying to get rid of a cat advertise free kittens I'd be careful though check out the cat's behavior by dangling a string in front of it. I'd advise you to go to your local Animal shelter one I went to you pay about $40.00 and you are saving a life and they pay for the cat to be spayed or neutered. They use the money you pay to get them spayed or neutered. I don't like going into animal shelters because I want to take all the animals home w/me it makes me too depressed. I wouldn't hesitate to go there if you really do want a kitten. Also if you are going to go to someone who is advertising in the newspaper watch for other problems like if a cat is shy or afraid of you might have to train a cat to trust you and it takes some work I'd advise you if you do go to someone's house to get a free cat see if the cat is friendly and will come up to you. That is the cat you want to take.

A shelter or the paper. If you want the kitten free, can you afford to buy food, litter, litter box, toys and bed? I hope so.
