Depending on the engine, it is going to cost at least $400 and maybe more to replace the head gasket. The head(s) should be sent out to be checked, and if they are cracked, it is going to be more. With a high mileage engine (which you indicated in another question) you really should have the engine rebuilt, or replace it with a good used one!

When you put a new head gasket on an old engine, there is additional strain on the bottom end of the motor. (bearings, rings) that already have wear on them. I have seen too many engines fail after replacing the head gasket to recommend that it be done on high mileage engines

alot i have a blown head gasket in an 1986 toyota corolla (mind you a very easy car to work on) and i was told $800 so yea call pep boys and ask for the labor rate on changing the gasket and you'll get a more deffined answer

over $600. those engines are hard to get to, but the parts are abundant, so the gasket shouldn't be expensive, just the labor.
