There are many reasons why a cat would be losing fur. There are parasitic diseases (fleas, mites), allergic diseases (flea allergy, food allergy), fungal diseases (ringworm), and many, many other skin disorders that can lead to hair loss. I suggest you take your cat to your veterinarian for a thorough examination. Unless the cause is obvious on examination, your veterinarian is likely to perform several diagnostic tests including a skin scraping (to look for mites), a fungal culture (to look for ringworm), and a thorough combing with a fine-toothed flea comb to look for fleas or flea “dirt.” Once a diagnosis is obtained, most skin disorders of cats are easily treated.

Does your cat wear a collar? If so take it off for a while. The combination of the flea killer and the collar may be irritating to your cat's skin under and around the collar.
The other possibility is that your cat is allergic to the ingredients in Frontline. If the skin where the fur is falling out is red or irritated it would be wise to call your vet and ask some questions about what to do next.

My cat has had a similar situation and it ended up being a skin allergy to fleas. The vet gave her some antibiotics and de-flead her. Its been about 2 weeks now and her fur is growing back.
Another answer could be if you are also making the cat wear a flea collar as well as having it front lined. The collar could be rubbing the solution into the skin and therfore making the fur fall out.

If losing its fur occurred after the frontline, yes, this could be the reason. It could be allergic. I would bath it in Dawn dishwashing liquid. It is very gentle and will not hurt your cat, and will also kill any fleas it might have, that could also be the problem even with the frontline. After the bath, do not replace the frontline without talking with your vet.

Is he wearing a flea collar as well? My cat lost fur around his neck because he was allergic to the flea collar and kept trying to get it off his neck. He rubbed a lot of the fur away himself, the allergy did the rest! Now he can't wear any collar at all, not even the gorgeous leather spiked one that makes him look more like a tom and less like a big cuddly daft stuffed toy!

Does your cat have a flea collar? If so, get rid of it. Also, is your cat on a cat dosage of Frontline? He could have a sensitivity to Frontline. If that is the case, ask your Vet what he or she would recommend as an alternative flea prevention.

It could have been a possible reaction to the flea treatment, but there again maybe not. It depends on the age of your cat, take it to the vet to be sure anyway as it could be a case of putting the cat onto antibiotics and steroids, also watch your cats eating and drinking levels as you will need to let your vet know about this

Hi there...has your cat been wearing a collar? Cats will scratch around the collar if it's irritating the skin and will feel reprieve when the collar is removed. Some animals can react negatively (allergic) to flea prevention products.
