It doesn't hurt at all when they do it. Yes they use anesthesia. You'll only feel pressure and they'll prescribe you pain pills while they are healing.

Most likely, they will put you under a twilight anesthesia (you will be asleep) and they will surgically remove the problem teeth. Afterward they will give you a few stitches in each socket. The stitches they use are called catgut and will dissolve on their own in a very short time. You will have to eat softer foods for a few days but then will be able to eat anything so long as you are careful. I have had mine out and found that the pain you suffer after getting them removed is way easier than the pain of dealing with them while in your mouth.

If you want they can put you to sleep under anesthesia and you don't even remember a thing. They will numb your mouth up too so when you wake up you feel no pain. They give you good pain meds and as long as you don't get what is called a "dry socket" which is where the blood clot comes loose you will be healing soon. The dry socket thing however is horrible. I had one and I had to go to dentist every 3 days for a medicated packing to stop the pain.

Ok, first of all, if you are already in severe pain since they grew in, you need them out before the other two come in. In your case it probably will not be so bad since you are having problems now. Call an oral surgeon and get one who has a lifetime guarantee; I got mine out and I can go back any time in my life if I have a problem which I did. I won't tell you don't want to scare you. They put you under to do the surgery you don't feel it, you wake up woozey, give you meds, take it easy. Good luck!

Go to an oral surgeon instead of a dentist. They can sedate you and send you home with some good pain pills.

It's mostly just uncomfortable, not so much painful.

And getting them out sooner is better, before the root structure gets larger and makes the extraction more difficult. Also as you age, the bones (including your jawbones) get much harder.

Yes it hurts like hell and they do give you drugs to sedate you. I do, however, recommend that you have all 4 remove at one time. I say this because if you just have one done at a time, you definitely will not go back to have the others removed.

You will look like a chipmunk with black eyes for a little while. So ask yourself.... look like a chipmunk and have no more headaches and jaw pain. Or continue to have headaches and jaw pain.

When people ask for encouragement about getting their wisdom teeth out, I like to share this story about my three children.

I removed two of my older daughter's wisdom teeth at 2:00 in the afternoon and told her to go home and lie down until dinner time. Before I got home, she had already left for the mall! I was rather angry, because I figured that she'd be moaning all night long and asking me what to do for the pain. Much to my happy surprise, she seemed just fine. She said that she waited until the numbness started to go away and she felt pretty good, so she decided to get up and go.

Same thing with my son. We were actually headed home from a drum lesson and he asked if we could stop in the office to check out the sore place in his mouth. It turned out to be an erupting wisdom tooth. He asked if I felt like taking it out right then, so I did. (I was afraid he might change his mind if he thought about it overnight.) His mom didn't even know he had a wisdom tooth taken out until he had to take the gauze out of his mouth to eat dinner. His uppers were both kind of difficult and he had trouble healing with one of them (sinus involvement), but that didn't last for more than 3 or 4 days.

With my third child, I took her to the oral surgeon, because the roots were sort of close to the nerve and _I_ didn't want to be the one to cause her any trouble if things got difficult. She had nitrous oxide and little bit of iv sedation and had all four removed at once. I wanted to get her right home, but she asked me to stop off at the mall before we went home. She insisted that she was okay. Instead of going home and lying down, she walked through the mall. Yes, she was biting on her gauze packs (in the mall!), but still she was a lot more active than I would recommend. She had no trouble at all healing. I think she went out that night, too. (It was 1999, so I don't remember the details.)

I'm not saying that they are ALL like this, but there are wisdom teeth and then there are w*!`S^D@m TEETH!!! I always say that wisdom teeth (and root canals, by the way) are like teenagers. At least 90% are no trouble at all, but everybody talks about the bad ones.

Its not bad pain at all and no way is it excruciating.... most likely you are asleep and they pull all four of them at one time... just follow their directions afterwards... because getting a dry socket is a real PAIN... worse than the extraction.. :o(

It does not hurt. More of a discomfort. If you get knocked out, you will not feel anything!
I had it done with novacane.
If you get knocked out you need someone to drive you home, that is why i had the novacane, i had to drive myself.
Do not worry, Peace of cake!
