My mom is over 50 years old and I have a question about life and parenting. This only applies to moms over 50. My question: Why would you want your daughter to get married and have a family if they don't want to? Why can't you just be happy for happy, healthy offspring?

I am amum over 40 and have told my daughter that she does not need to get married if she does not want to. If she finds a partner well and good. I guess mums donot want to see their children lonely later on in life. Some of my friends are not marriedand lead busy lives. It is what God chooses for your child that counts.

Maybe your mom thinks you're missing out on what she had. She wants you to experience the joy of walking down the aisle and looking into the eyes of a guy who just at the sight of him takes your breath away... and holding your new born child in your arms, to watch that child take it's first steps or go off to school. What she experienced when you were little.

You have to remember the generation that she grew up in. Getting married was THE thing to do. Just keep reminding her that you are happy and healthy, and that you love her. But don't expect to change her too much.

I have a mother over 50, so hopefully you'll understand this as far as MY perspective goes. Not all parents want their children to be alone in life. It really has nothing to do with grandchildren. It has to be with you. At their age, they're afraid of growing old alone, their children not being around them as much as they were when their adult children were growing up. Here's what you need to tell your mother if she is getting on your nerves with what she wants for you. Let her know that at the moment you're quite content with life. Let her know that there are things you want to do or experience before settling down. I'm sure she'll understand 'cause heh, she was our age once :) GL with your mother :)
