i need to mail something important in paper to a friend in china
but i only have the chinese address
and the letter came back......
the post lady said i need to translet it because theres no way that the mahcine can pick that up
so, heres my question
how do u translet the letters? in pinyin?

I think that what your post lady said about the translation is strange. If you are to write the address in PinYin, the postal office in China will have a problem delivering it. I'm not sure if this is how things work but the PinYin is below as requested.

浙江省 zhe jiang sheng
温州市 wen zhou shi
黎明西路 li ming xi lu
X弄 X号 X幢 XXX室 X long X hao X zhuang XXX shi

I don't think you need to get the entire translation. If you just get the province and country (Peoples Republic of China or PRC) on there the rest in chinese will be fine.
Mind you, the domestic mail in china are still mostly written in chinese and sorted by hand.
I have on more than one occassion mailed letters to Hong Kong with no more than Hong Kong in English and the rest written in chinese.
