The answer to this question varies based upon the definition of inteligence, the human IQ test is based upon book knowlege. This type of evaluation of animals is not possible due to a communication difference, this difference is also considered simularto ones between abnormal humans (dyslexic, ADHD, and more drastically, developmentally disabled) and normal humans. (the structures of the brain are slightly different.) how these differences effect the intelligence of animals we really do not know, so to finnaly answer your question animals are not dumb, they just think different than you and I. on a learning basis many animals can learn as much as normal a two or three year old. there is a parrot which has acheived the level of communication of a seven year old, as of the most recent reports, but the study is continuing. Another thing which must be considered is the why in which we interact with animals, especially pets, asa they learn in differnt ways than we do. ahhh yes... the old "are animals dumb question?". awhile back me and my prominent harvard research team were expertly delving into this long and complicated question. as i recall we did tests on the rare maligua turtle, kalamangi bear, and the most unique animal the archmalotire schreeching hamster. we set a triple blind, no excerpments, double constant experiment for the utmost in accuracy. the verdict: our years of excruciating research and long hours of tedious work payed off. yes, it looks as if some animals are smart and some are of the lower intelligence. if you want to debate this with me visit me at www.theowf.com/index

They can be smart, they dont have a soul... so they cant lie.
It depends on the animal, like a dophlin is really smart and a lamp is more stupid....

no. they are smart in there own way. im guessing what ur getting at is if their so smart, then y r they so easily captured? its because they have no understanding of how we live or how we think. they only care about themselves and run away if they know they cant win the fight. their more about basic instincts and surviving.

No, they're not. Consider this: dogs, cats, apes and dolphins can learn our language and respond with desired actions in a matter of minutes... but few of us ever master their "languages".
