Meaning in and of itself does not exist. A conscious creature must apply meaning to something; and before that there is no meaning, only cause and effect.

An analogy would be pain. If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to get hit by it, is there pain?

Humans naturally devise meaning in all situations. Church people devise a whole web of meaning. Their meaning of life is that you die and go to heaven and spend eternity in total bliss.

I'm a saint and I'm holy; but I don't necessarily need to devise a meaning based on "What's in it for me?"

After all, wouldn't God be okay with someone who just wants to live righteously, obediently; a life that glorifies God; with no thought or expectation of personal gain?

Actually, I'm not a saint; I'm a sinner. But I recognize I'm a sinner and I don't try to gloss over it by giving life an absurd sanctimonious meaning such as the Christians' meaning.

I suspect God is not amused by their meaning of life. It makes him look like an idiot.

Oh? You don't know? Everyone knows that the meaning of life is to...
Start your day shaving, not knowing that there is a bomb in your chest to go off in 13 days. Then you drive to work on you run down little MoPed, farting loudly. As people start to pass out from the stench around you, you realize that there is a small ticking noise coming from your chest. "Another bomb..." you say to yourself. You arrive at work and realize that it is actually Saturday, but since you are at work, you decide to stay and get some work done. Then you think to yourself, "What the **** am I doing, the game is on!!??!?!?!!!!!!!!!!" You ride home on the Pony express while being pelted with Buffalo chicken sausage, and, while looking at a little boy peeing his pants, you get hit by a train. This sets off the bomb in your chest and you die. THE END. If you can do that, then you know the real meaning of life, which is not, to start your day shaving, not knowing that there is a bomb in your chest to go off in 13 days. Then you drive to work on you run down little MoPed, farting loudly. As people start to pass out from the stench around you, you realize that there is a small ticking noise coming from your chest. You ride home on the Pony express while being pelted with Buffalo chicken sausage, and, while looking at a little boy peeing his pants, you get hit by a train. This sets off the bomb in your chest and you die, but cheese, yes, cheese is the meaning of life, the reason we were all born. HAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!
