Itching and scratching at the anal area. We were taught as nurses to put the child in a dark room, then take a flashlight and inspect the anus. The female pinworm comes out to the anal opening at night to lay eggs. They look like a thin, white, thread. You might not see any the first night and it is recommended to check over three nights. You can also use the tape test. When the child first gets up in the morning before they have a bath, take a peice of tape, sticky side down and put it to the anus for a few seconds. Then remove it and place it on a peice of glass. Then take it to the lab to be inspected for pinworm eggs. This might also have to be done over a three night period. The whole family will have to be treated if any are found. They are ususally passed from one to another very easily. Hope this helps.

If you suspect your child has them, wait until he/she goes to bed. Get a flashlight and check between the buttocks and if they do have them you will see them moving outside the anal area. Pin worms lay eggs outside the anus and their activity is prevalent at night. You may also notice your child scratching and seeming to be uncomfortable in the rectal area. There is medication that can be given and all the sheets, bed linens and clothing should be washed in very hot water. Make sure before he/she eats they wash their hands thoroughly. I hope everything works out. Your doctor will know how to handle this common childhood delema.

An itchy butt especially during night time and early morning hours. This is when the worms come out to lay their eggs..Gross I know, but you can also see in the poop, little white thread like worms. You can take the child to the doctor and they will give them just one pill that you can give your child and then another that you give 2 weeks later.
