I am a recovering alcoholic. My father is an alcoholic and his father died an alcoholic. Alcoholism is a hereditary disiese. It is an imbalance in the chemistry in the brain. When a person is of an addictive nature, they tend to use the addiction to hide from real life issues. At one time in their lives they recieved an ultimate high like no other that you can imagine. After a period of time when the alcoholism is more full blown. They are still trying to obtain that high, that makes them feel good about themselves., but they can not get it so they continue to try. Once it is full blown they can not stop, by themselves. There is a way to overcome it; AA; but there is no cure and they have to learn a totally different way of life.

As far as a non-alcoholic goes, they have no chemical imbalance and can deal with everyday problems in a different way.

Alcoholic is a fancy word for drunk. They become "addicted" to the alcohol because they are cowards and can't deal with the real world. So they hide behind a haze of alcohol and make everyone else's life miserable just so they can feel a little better about themselves.

I don't understand how a person can be an alcoholic or drug addict. When I drink just one day I don't feel like drinking the next...and so on....Don't they get headaches and stomache aches and just general ill feeling from drinking too much.
