Do you love him? Do you feel committed to him? If you answered yes-then you are not wasting your time. He's given you a commitment ring to show his commitment to you and your relationship together-and that is such a lovely gesture. Appreciate that-and him. Whatever problems there are now that are preventing you from getting engaged/married will go in time. Those other people will learn to accept the relationship-and hopefully, pay more attention to their lives!
If you love him and believe in this relationship, then appreciate the here and now,and don't worry about the other people or whether the ring is an engagement or commitment ring.

He thinks a commitment ring isn't going to cause a problem as much as an engagement ring? Hahhahha!
He's fooling himself.
But don't let him fool you. If you have the money, he doesn't owe a bunch of child support and he isn't still married, and you've been together long enough, ask for the ring. If not, think V-E-R-Y seriously about this relationship.

I t would be great if everybody we knew approved of all our firends, family, partners, lovers, etc. But there will always be some, who for whatever reason, won't/don't approve.

This is your life, your love, & if you (not anybody else) want to spend your lives together then you should get engaged & show the world your in love.

Friends/family then have a choice. They can either choose to be a part of your life, or not. If they don't want to know that is their loss, not yours.

I know it is easier said than done, but we only get one shot at this thing called life. Don't waste it trying to please other people!

If you both really want to be together, who cares what others think?

But this sounds to me like your looking for an excuse to avoid any kind of commitment in this relationship. I suspect you aren't as serious and don't share the same feeleings as your partner does.

You need to be honest with yourself. For both your own sake and your partners sake.

A commitment ring is better than nothing, don't you think?? At least he is showing interest in marriage.

I SAY IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT PROBLEMS YOU HAVE W/ OTHER PEOPLE AS LONG AS YOU ARE HAPPY W/ EACH OTHER. I'VE BEEN IN AN INTERRACIAL RELATIONSHIP FOR 6 YRS, MY MOM IS JUST STARTED BACK COMMUNICATING W/ ME 2 YRS AGO. MY DAD STILL HASN'T CAME AROUND YET, BUT I HAVE MY MOM AND THE ONE I LOVE IN MY LIFE. YOU DO WHAT YOU FEEL IS RIGHT IN YOUR HEART. DON'T LIVE YOUR LIFE FOR SOMEONE ELSE. GOOD LUCK, AND MERRY CHRISTMAS.

You can't live your life for other people preferences. All that matters in a adult romantic relationship are the two people involved in it.
