I heard that it makes you gain more weight if you eat bread. Even whole wheat does the same thing. Is that true?

People: carbohydrates are not bad for you.

In fact, they are supposed to be the primary source of your body's energy. This is why bread and grains and pasta and such are the biggest part of the food pyramid. Fad diets like Atkins will cause you to lose weight, but they are actually pretty unhealthy. Bread has been a staple of human life since before history started being recorded. This is no coincidence. The problem with carbs (or ANY type of food) is that people eat too much of them and then don't get enough exercise. This will cause you to gain weight. The best way to lose weight is also the healthiest thing you can do for your body. Keep the ratios of the types of food balanced, but just cut back overall, and get some exercise. It's slower than most fad diets, and a little more work, but you will lose weight, be MUCH healthier in the long run, and the weight is way less likely to return. You'll also feel better, which is not something that fad diets can boast.
These all-protein-no-carb people are going to mess up their kidneys.

Whole wheat bread has more natural fiber, but wheat isn't especially high vitamins or minerals. Enriched breads have had healthy things artificially added -- no different than taking a vitamin pill.

Bread (and other carbs) can cause weight gain because our bodies process carbs before any other food. Then it processes protein, then dietary fat ... FINALLY body fat.

If we overeat carbs, protein & dietary fat, then body fat never gets used and we remain the same. If overweight, then we stay fat. If not overweight, then our weight is stable.

If your weight is normal, don't worry about it.

no. bread itself isnt bad, the carbs in it arent the best in the world. but hey, if you eat bread each day in its designated portions ( like in the food pyramid) , u will b healthier than sum1 who isnt eating bread. and another thing, wheat bread is very good for you , especially the edges because it has nutrients and fiber.

Not unless you think that Wonderbread and the like is actually bread. Naturally leavened whole grain organic bread (ingredients: flour, water, starter) ... it's good. People have been eating it for thousands of years. Metabolism in conjunction with your intake determins how much fat you have. Not any kind of specific food.

In general, bread is good for you. But it's just like any other food which contains carbohydrate, consuming excessive amounts more than you burn in daily activities, can lead to weight gain.

Bread is a necessary part of our food pyramid because of it's grains, but it's a big loaf of carbohydrates. However, if you eat reduced carb, whole grain, you should be okay.
