We believe in a few things...we believe there is a heaven (Gan Eden or garden of Eden) for people who deserve it, we believe there is hell (Gehinom) for people who have sinned their whole life, we believe there is a state of a wondering soul ( a dibuk) when the person is too bad to even go to hell! Then we believe in the Resurrection of the dead ( Techias Hamesisim) when the Messiah (Moshiach) comes when all the souls will be brought back to life! Hope I answered your question! :) Take care!

Judaism does not believe in hell in the Christian sense. There is a condition (more than a place) called Gehennon, where the soul goes after earthly life to ponder its errors and the harm it has done to others. Judaism does not believe in a heaven in the sense of most religions, but does believe in an existence after earthly life. However, we do not believe that the Torah is very specific about the nature of that existence. We also do not dwell upon any aspect of existence after earthly life; we believe that our lives here, and what we do with them and how we treat other people are far more important things with which to be concerned.

Understand the true meaning and purport of Heaven and all your queries would automatically dissolve.

Heaven (aka Swarga in Hinduism) is a place in the mighty Cosmos wherein the souls rest in peace until they get to manifest a body on Mother Earth. But there is one condition attached. Any soul can only go to Heaven provided there is a positive balance of karma in hand.

All souls with a negative balance of karma go to hell (aka Naraka in Hinduism).

For every soul (aka Atman in Hinduism) at any point of time there are three abodes available. Either manifest a body on Mother Earth provided matching womb is available (for any soul to manifest on Mother Earth the existence of matching parents is an essential must).

If the matching parents are not available on Mother Earth then it is imperative that the soul would have to rest either in Heaven or hell based on the balance of karma of the earlier manifestations.

And what is karma? Right from the first manifestation the closing balance of any life form is transferred to the next manifestation through the process of karma. It is only karma which keeps the system going. In absence of karma the complete existence of Cosmos would come to a halt.

Does this mean that the reincarnation and the rebirth theory are correct... yes, they are hundred percent correct. Every human being started his first journey as an amoeba (single cell formation), then evolved into insect life, animal life and finally gained the form of a human being.

In all these stages the system of Heaven and hell plays role only after one has manifested the form of a human being... the last in the chain of manifestations.

We need to remember here that it is not Heaven that one would want to go but it is the kingdom of God where Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohammed went. More on heaven here- http://www.godrealized.org/heaven/way_to_heaven.html

Basically the Jewish faith is awaiting their Messiah. He will release the spirits of the deceased to go to their heavenly promised land. Many Jews and Christians believe the second coming of Christ is the long awaited coming of the Jewish Messiah. Jesus came to save the "Gentiles" not the Jews. Some Christians resent the Jews because they crucified Jesus. The is strange to me because (1) Jesus died a Jew, and (2) He could not have risen from the dead if he had not been slain. Remember he said from the cross "Father forgive them, they know not what they do"

Some do and some don't. Since nobody has the slightest idea or any way of finding out, every religion has people who do and those who do not.

In some religions you go along with the prevailing belief, whatever your personal belief; and it doesn't help to ask people personally.

Like in the Baptist religion it's a tenet of their faith that all of their members are saved, and everybody else is damned; so naturally everybody is required to believe in a hereafter, but whether they do or not is a whole other matter.

Go ask your mom.

Kind of. Yes- there is an afterlife, but the traditions and laws of the religion are about life before death, not life after it. So- the whole concept is very different from Catholicism which uses the carrot and stick philosophy of heaven and hell.

Christians love their neighbor, and fear their god. (as if you don't accept him, you'll burn in hell for all eternity)
Jews are the opposite. They love their god... and fear their neighbor (for good reason, as their neighbors generally hate them just for being Jewish)

Basically, yes, we believe in an afterlife.

However, we are taught to focus on the world we are in, to help repair it.
The reason is that God will take care of us all (of all faiths and those who do not believe) which frees us up to take care of each other.

In other words, heaven can wait, but your less-fortunate neighbors can't.

Yes, they do. But unless they are a Messianic Jew, they don't believe that Jesus was the son of God. That's the difference between Jews and Christians. Jews follow the Old Testament, but not the New Testament.
