Size, Head shape are more impressionable in the male, He is bigger, taller, more muscular in body and jaw and head, projects masculinity. He is more prone to "run" than a female and fight, though some females are quite the fighters, but that is generally a male problem. The female comes in heat and that presents a problem in isolating her. Both are very affectionate and need to be busy, give them ample opportunity for play and interaction with you, or this energy will turn destructive. That is same of most breeds. But this breed does personify "working dog" So get him a cart or wagon or sled and have fun.

I have to agree that you need to be really careful with a bouvier - not a breed for any novice. I have one living next door and besides being unrelentingly aggressive with any and all dogs in the neighborhood, he's also not trustworthy with people. I know there's also good ones out there because I've known a couple, but if you're considering getting one, be sure it's from a reputable breeder and make sure you see the parents. The breed also has quite a few health problems - another reason for a conscientious breeder.

I can only describe my Bouvier which is male, he is very friendly with everyone he meets, has never shown any meanness to any person or animal. He is always with me everywhere I go, he draws attention everywhere he goes as the breed is not to common, and he's really handsome. He is now 4 yr old and 82# of fluff.
I have two other dogs a yellow Lab (10yr) and a Terrier X (8yr) I reccomend all but I love my Bouvier.

They are not all as sweet as the above posters. I know a couple people that show them, and some can be quite nasty. I would not recommend one to a novice owner as they can be a handful. 2 of my friends got out and slaughtered all their pigs. So much for being a herding breed, LOL!

High grooming as well.
