Beez is right. The Pistons were his first choice, then the Lakers, the Jews were actually his third choice. Luckily for them the Pistons and Lakers were already taken.

As far as I understand it from Jewish tradition, Jews actually WERE Plan B. The original idea was to have everyone share the same vague moral code without a formal religion and live happily ever after. This didn't work out, so God's next idea was to a small group of people in direct contact with God (I guess small groups are easier to work with) who would then influence everyone. Which, if you'll look at history, is what happen. Most of the world has been shaped by either Christianity or Islam, both of which came from Judaism. So it's not racist or anything, just a more efficient system.

God chose Abraham to be the Father of a nation that God would use to show the people of the earth God's ways. They were to represent God to the people, and the people to God. Not only did they enjoy many blessings because they were Jews, they also endured many hardships. For 2000 yrs. they performed rituals and ceremonies required by God that foreshadowed his coming, such as the animal sacrifice that pointed to the future sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who is the Lamb of God. But when he came, the Jews did not recognize him. Now to be a Jew means to believe in Jesus Christ. "If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham' s seed, and heirs according to the promise."- Galatians 3:29.

Therefore, if you belong to Christ, you are among his chosen!!!

God had to choose a race of people that Jesus would descend from. He chose Abraham to be the Father of the Jewish Nation because Abraham really tried very hard to follow God. God appeared to Abraham one day and promised to make his descendants into a great nation. Abraham's part of the agreement was to obey God. Through sharp testing, Abraham remained faithful to God. Through Abraham all the families of the earth were blessed with a savior. (Jesus Christ.)
God does not love the Jews any more than he loves the rest of us, but he had to choose a nation to bring forth the savior.

We are all special to God, as children are all special to a parent. However God has a unique relationship with the Jewish people. He made a covenant with them, a promise that He cannot break. They are God's people by covenant. To Abram (Abraham), He said that He will make of him a great nation. (Genesis 12:2) He has also said that He will bless those who bless them and curse those that curse Israel. (Gen. 12:3) He chose to bring the redeemer Jesus through the Jewiish race. With Jesus came a new covenant, that completed the old one, and included the gentiles as well. But at the same time, the Jews are still special to God, as He refers to them as 'the apple of His eye" and no matter what other nations or peoples do, His covenant to make them a great nation is still in place. His promise to watch over them as a people is still in place. No other nation has been dispersed from their homeland to all parts of the globe and still retaining their unique identity like the Jewish people. That is part of God's protection. Now He is still bringing them back into their homeland of Israel from all parts of the globe, part of prophetic fulfillment. The Jewish people have an important part to play in the end of time as 144,000 Jewish evangelists. God is not done with them yet. In the Jewish and middle eastern cultures, the firstborn son gets the blessing and favor. So, the Jewish people get the blessing and favor of God. I we want to enjoy that blessing, all we have to do is to bless them as well. As a Christian I love and honor the Jewish people, as my faith has roots in Judaism. They gave me the Savior. One day, many Jewish people will discover that the Messiah they are seeking has already come and will be coming again.

"Chosen" just means that the Jews are given more responsibility in the world.

The Bible contains 613 commandments for Jews; and 7 commandments for non-Jews. Both avenues to become close with God.

I agree, because the philosophy of the chosen thing means the rest are trash or second class ? its absolutely wrong, all man kind are the same, what differs one from another is his belief and good deeds, nothing else, besides Jews as a nation have murdered most of their prophets, does that sound like the chosen people !

It was because of Abraham who was righteous in God's eyes. Abraham manifested faith when God commanded him to leave his home. Jehovah said: “Go your way out of your country and from your relatives and from the house of your father to the country that I shall show you.” (Genesis 12:1) The faithful patriarch obeyed, for we are told: “By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed in going out into a place he was destined to receive as an inheritance; and he went out, although not knowing where he was going.” (Hebrews 11:8)

Abraham dedicated himself as a servant of God and God rewarded hime by being a father of his nation, a nation that he inherited from God. The bible says Abraham did not do what the other people of his time was doing, worshipping gods, idols but remained loyal to God. So God wanted a nation who would be thaught about Him and would not do wicked thimgs as other nations do.

God said to Moses in Exodus 19:3“This is what you are to say to the house of Jacob and to tell the sons of Israel, 4 ‘YOU yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, that I might carry YOU on wings of eagles and bring YOU to myself. 5 And now if YOU will strictly obey my voice and will indeed keep my covenant, then YOU will certainly become my special property out of all [other] peoples, because the whole earth belongs to me. 6 And YOU yourselves will become to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you are to say to the sons of Israel.”

By 70 C.E., God no longer viewed the natural Jews as his chosen people. Jesus showed that God had rejected that nation and would let its capital city, temple, and system of worship come to an end. (Matthew 23:37–24:2)

God chose a new nation, spiritual Israel. (Acts 15:14; Romans 2:28, 29; Galatians 6:16) It was composed of men and women chosen out of all nations and anointed with holy spirit. (Matthew 22:14; John 15:19; Acts 10:1)
