I don't belive in Abreva, I use Campo Phonique or Herpicin, they are best. But understand, a cold sore will last a whole 7 days no matter what you use.

cold sores are a type of herpes virus named Herpes simplex. Once you have it, it will always be in your system. The herpes attack cells when you are stressed and your immune system is down( immunosuppressed). You can purchase cream or ointment from your chemist that you apply to the coldsore when you feel that tingling feeling .
Or you can try a natural alternative from your health food shop, there is a supplement called Lysine. Lysine is involved in many bodily functions as it is an amino acid, but supplementing this amino acid helps collagen and skin repair, the formation of antibodies to fight disease, enchances athletic importance, and most importantly for you, it has been shown to be effective in the treatment of the cold sore virus, especially if it is combined with vitamin C. Its usual dose is 32mg per kg of body weight, but the dosage will be on the bottle if you decide to purchase it.
I hope this helps :)

fingernail polish remover, rubbing alcohol, toothpaste (at night) campho phenique, cold medicine
ooh...so, I had a really bad cold sore a few months ago, and I was desperate to get rid of it, so I googled remedies for it, and believe it or not, fingernail polish remover seemed to be the remedy. There were also numerous reports that rubbing alcohol, toothpaste, campho and cold medicine were very good.
Lo and behold, I tried all of these, and the cold sore never got bigger and went away considerably at a faster pace. It was amazing. I really, really suggest you try these remedies. They have worked for a lot of people, including me.

For over the counter relief, Abreva is the best.
You could see a doctor and ask him to prescribe Valtrex. It works quite well also. Cold sores are caused by a virus similar to the genital herpes virus which is why it works.
