religion shouldnt be illegal!
i hate religion and i completly agree that it causes more war than anything else but it also has built many foundations for traditions in 99% of countries! like if we didnt have religion we probably would have very little moral values.our english laws all comply with the ten comandments as we are a christian country, and we would have no christmas or easter ,which is when most families see each other.
without religion our lives would be completly different ,although we may or may not believe in god or heaven we all live by something that all started because someone sat down and wrote something down whether it was an actual account of events or one hell of a good book!

While religion is the root cause of most war, there can not be any rule or law that bans it as morality can not be legislated without the rise of even more violence.
Just as religious organizations can't make laws against athiesm, evolution, humanism inspite of their ability to try, athiests, evolutionists, humanists can not make laws against religious organizations and have any hope of success.
We must allow people to make their own opinions when it comes to personal beliefs and convictions. If we don't allow this freedom of choice, there will be violence as people are ready to die for what they believe is true...even if they are wrong.
Educating a society is all we can do...we can never force people to believe as one, as individuality is the core creedence of Democracy. There can be no legislation of moralilty.
I agree that religion causes a lot of suffering in the world as there are too many "Sects" and violence but ending people's superstitions and dogmas must begin from inside an individual's mind and not from outside force. I think the world would be better off without organized religion but I can't stop the world from organizing religiously...all I can do is not join myself.
Against religion? Then don't become a member of one. Against abortion? Then don't have one. All we can control is ourselves and if we do that well, everything else will fall into place. The world's problem is mainly caused by individuals not being true to their own set of morals and values.
My philosophy? Quit trying to control everyone else and concentrate on only controlling yourself. Ban personal hypocracy don't try to ban everyone else's.

And then what other rights would you have made illegal? Maybe sex should be illegal. That would stop all the child abuse because there would be no more children. Or maybe we can outlaw love. That way no one would be held in higher esteem than anyone else. Or maybe we should outlaw breathing - we could stop pollution - for the first 4 or so minutes there would be less carbon dioxide entering into the atmosphere. Then, when everyone is dead, there would be no more pollution at all!

You have no point. First do your research- religion is notthe cause of more war than anything- religion is just used as an excuse. Second, of course someone is lying, but making religion illegal will not change that nor will it change what the truth is. Religion is not illegal and trying to force someone to believe something or not believe it is illegal and fortunately for you- freedom of speech is not illegal- no matter how off the wall and ridiculous it is.

No, I disagree. All religions are true if they're believed in. It doesn't matter if someone says their god is the only one, it only matters what the individual believes. It wouldn't cause war if people would just learn to be tolerant of other beliefs and accept each other.

Personally, I believe all religions are shams, but that doesn't mean they should be illegal, since technically they aren't LEGAL (i.e. you believe in them if you want or not - they're voluntary as opposed to mandated).
People should have the choice to do whatever they want, no matter where they live, which means that just because they cause war and destruction and seem like brainwashing tools, doesn't mean they aren't necessary for some people to find meaning and purpose in their lives.
Most of those religious nuts will wisen up eventually. Just give them some more time.

No. And, most wars are caused by attempts to gain power, wealth, land or resources. Often, faith is used as an excuse - just as race and nationality are often used as justification.
Ultimately, war and conflict would occur without the presence of religion. Most people who wage war look for reasons to justify their actions. If not religion, they WILL find something else.

You say that all religion cannot be true. This is so. If you make all religion illegal, are you not hiding the truth if one religion is true?
If God is real, you are only fighting against God and in that case, how could you win?
Also, what would you replace religion with? Humanism?
Is this not only religion in another form?

No, religion should not be made illegal. It would just encourage them.
A much better way to combat religion is with education. We have to try force government to put religion on a level playing field with other beliefs. We have to keep them out of the religious discussion and keep the government concentrated on government, not religion. If we try to make religion illegal, it would give religions more incentive to establish a theocracy.
We should keep the market of ideas a free market. Religion, if it isn't promoted by government (or opposed by it), will die off on its own if we can get more people to just value reason and evidence.
You can't promote free thought by banning someone else's beliefs.

The only way you can stop us is to kill us. Is that what you want?
Incidentally, PEOPLE start wars. If they didn’t have religion as an excuse they would find another because it is all about acquiring power or access to natural resources. Always has been, always will be.
