If your dog is licking his feet it's usually an indication of something wrong. (Dog's don't "groom" themselves the way cats do.)
The dog may have something lodged between the pads on his foot (maybe even a matt of old fur or something); there might be splinter in his foot; or he may be trying to "cool" his feet because they've been irritated by an allergic reaction to something.
We suggest that you check the dog's feet thoroughly. If you can't find what the problem is, take him to the vet and get him checked out.

Dogs in a sort of way do but the licking is just trying bite bugs in their skin or lick some dirt off. But you will need too take him to the groomers and wash him because sometimes they get dirt so deep they cannot get it out and if you do not take care of your dogs grooming needs properly they can die from diseases such as ringworm, fleas, and ticks.

Dogs do not groom themselves, thats why you have to bath them. when your dog is licking his feet he is removing bits of dirt from his pads and dogs chew their claws occasionally to try to cut them down a bit, but you usually have to take them to the vet to clip them back properly. If you ignore the length of a dogs claws, it can become painful for the dog to walk.

You just answered your own question :0)
Our English Mastiff does this, then we took in this saint Bernard and he does it too. The two of them hate dirty feet!! The other two dogs do not seam to care. These two are from the herding group. Australian Shepherd, then the male is Aussie/boarder collie mix.

Yes, they do groom themselves, and some are much more vain than others. My shepherd just hates to be dirty, almost as if she's embarassed by it. Whereas, my spaniel is a stinking little pig.

It's not usual but can happen, we've had five dogs and only one has done it - a collie, she also licks and bites her paws to clean them.
