Interesting question. There have been a number of "born again Christians" who "found Christ" in prison. But not until AFTER they were incarcerated. Case in point: Charles Coulson, the first person to be arrested in the Watergate scandal. He became the founder of a Christian prison ministry after he was jailed. So I would have to say that it's most definitely after incarceration, since no one finds Christ on prom night in the backseat of mom's car.

Perhaps the real question is "How may Christians claim to be criminals?" All of us are sinners. For some, the incarceration is the life they live when they are prisoners to their ego and sinfulness.

Dear Stephani,

The truth of the matter is that ALL of us are criminals because we have broken God's law. Every person ever born, with the exception of Jesus Christ, is a wretched sinner and is heading for the lake of fire (hell). The wonderful news is that God in His great mercy and kindness has determined to save some of these wicked rebels and make them His children. To do that Christ had to take their punishment upon himself and pay for their sins be enduring the fierce wrath of God. Then, He had to give them a new resurrected soul in which they love God and want to be odedient to His commandments. This "salvation" is a great miracle that only God, the Lord Jesus Christ could do.
And Steph, Judgment Day is quickly approaching. From everything the Bible says, it appears that 2011 will be the year in which Jesus Christ will return. The day in which He returns will be the end of the world and Judgment Day. All those who have not had their sins paid for by Christ will begin to pay for their sins on the last day. Every lie that you have told, every unclean thought you have contemplated, and the thousands of other sins you have committed will brought as evidence against you. That is why people need a Savior.

Statistically, it would be the SAME PERCENTAGE numbers both inside the penal colonies as it is in the outside world, I imagine.

Although Statistics doesn't work once you consider it based on Ethnicity or Race, meaning there's a flaw in the Justice system we have, as a whole.

But I gather that there is a good portion of prison inmates who do get converted and become "born-again" Christians.

Peace be with you.

Many both before and after incarceration. The Evil One targets them especially for temptation. Where temptation is greater sin is greater so this is nothing to get excited about. People who are not Christian really have very little to fear in the way of temptation, because their own wickedness suffices for their evil and they aren't even bothered with by the Devil.

Christians are over-represented in the prison population. Atheists and agnostics are under-represented. Check the Federal Bureau of Prisons for the stats.
