Depending on how you define "Western Africa", there are about 500-1000 languages spoken in that region. There is no "primary language" in the region. French and English serve as linguae francae in the region, but they are not native to the area.

The 'official' languages are French (8 countries), Arabic (5), English (5) and Portuguese (1). Some countries have more than one official language though. I don't know about actual percentages/populations though.
