I work in mental health and that news story is misleading and puts accross a negative image of mental health. According to that article I person a week dies at the hands of someone who is mentally unwell. It does not tell you how many people a week are killed by their partner, spouse etc, this figure is higher. So statistically your safer in a psychiatric hospital then in your own home.

Neither does it compare to how many people die a day smoking or driving, which per day goes in to double figures

The majority by a long way are men which makes a female one all the more sinister and scary by it's rarity. People such as Myra Hindley and Rose West are far more famous than many, many others we have probably never even heard of by the mere fact that they were female. As for why. It is impossible for a normal human being to comprehend why people act this way as their reasoning is usually incomprehesible to you or I.

i worked in a mental health facility when the population was 2300 people in ten years the hospital discharged about 1500 patients. out of the 1500 patients, nobody killed anybody. that article is vary unfair, and presents a poor picture of people that are mentally ill. it seems that more deaths are related to people that are not mentally ill, than there are deaths attributed to people that are.

Anytime you deal with statistics like these, you have to wonder what's never been reported.
How many women are just plain never suspected?
