I've got a large butterfly on my lower back (how cliche, right?). Anyway, when my friend first designed it, she said I HAD to get it colored in. Well, I didn't. But once she saw it, just in black, she said she liked it better like that, without the color.
So I was just wondering - do you guys like tattoos better with lots of color, or just black?

I had a rose done just in black and did later get it colored by another tatoo artist and wished I had left it alone as he didn't take care as to stay within the outlines and now it looks like **** and scarred.....I do have another just black and some grey shading and it looks just as beautiful as the day I got it and wouldn't think of coloring it. If it looks good now why mess with it?????? You just never know.....

You know I have a tramp stamp too. It is a tribal butterfly, boy aren't we original. Mine is filled in but it is all black. Above it, I have psycho looking fairy. It is about 12 inches long and roughly about 5 -6 inches wide. It looked pretty good without color, but about a month after I got it I decided I would like it better with color. So that's what I did. I love it.Your friend may like it better without color but it really is up to you. Look at it in the mirror, does it have enough depth without color, is there enough detail without color? If it is kind of plain looking...color it! If it looks great right know without the color ...leave it!!

If I was to get a butterfly tattoo I would probably get it coloured but that's me. My friend has a butterfly on her lower back (fair enough not too original but still looks beautiful) and she has it coloured with pink, yellow, purple etc and its gorgeous :)
Maybe talk to a few reputable tattoo artists or look at some different pics of butterfly tattoos to help you decide. I'm sure it'll look beautiful either way :)

it depends on the tattoo but most of the time color make them look better and show more detail but some times black is good and Ur skin tone also depends on the color are the blk tones but a good tattoo artist can make either look great

Is it in a place that will be out in the sun a lot? Color can fade quite a bit when exposed to the sun.
I would also talk with a good tattoo artist. They can help your decision along.

without. the colors never seem vibrant enough. they always look faded. however the black looks classic. I not really into tattoos, but on other people the simpler the better. Too much stuff makes it look overdone--especially colors.

Since you have that tattoo all your life, you can always just wait and see. You have many years to decide if you want it colored, why choose now?
