By bringing this sense of "space" between you and her that seperates her. This "space" is what you two will need to break down to become lovers, so therefore, you aren't even starting as friends and both of you understand that this is what is going on. The "space" that I'm talking about is the sense that you two are kind or like strangers, and that you have much to discover about each other. That is what gets each partners to become interested in each other personally instead of friendly. The more she likes you the more personal questions she gives, etc. To create this space, start out slow, be respectful instead of comfortable around her (friends are comfort over respect) and slowly move toward comfort by making funny jokes, etc. Ask her for her name even if you may already know it (this is called flirting, because it's like a head game). Ask her out for dinner/movies, those don't matter.
You want exact:
1)"Excuse me, what is your name?"
2) "Are you available during Monday afternoon?"
3) "Give me your phone number..."
4) "Thanks."

Well, catch her alone, first, so it will be a little more intimate, and just start talking about the weekend or whatever, and then just casually bring it up, uk, something like..."Hey, i was wondering if we could go to the movies on...blank..." or something to that effect...just thread it into the conversation, but make it clear you want to go as a "we" not a 'you, me, and ten other friends"

Say "Jill, would you like to go to the movies with me?"

The best dates are with friends.

"You know something, I'm free on _______ (fill in with date and time). I was thinking about going to ________ (fill in with place) but I don't like going alone, would you like to come with me."

If she says "yes", get her phone number and address and work your way up from there.

Say it in a serious tone.
