American Beer generally has alcohol content below 6%. Wine usually contains the alcohol content on the label, is above 8% but cannot exceed 14.5%. Spirits have the highest content and that is measured by the proof. In the US the proof number of spirits equals twice the alcohol content, thus 80 proof is 40% alcohol. The proof number is on the label as well. Below are some links that talk about beer, wine and spirits alcohol content.

Where do you live? In most countries it is mandatory to put the degrees of alcohol on the labeling or impressed into the bottle. In the USA and some other countries this is optional for beer producers. I'm not sure but I think it is also optional for A.O.C. wines in France.
