Try cleaning the lens with lens paper and lens cleaner.

Is it a Fuji A-500? I got 5 of those in my lab, and 2 of them have returned with the same error.
Return it or send it in for warranty repair.
Odd, because Fuji generally makes a pretty decent camera.

Oh, I don't really know, but how long has it been since your replaced the battery.
